Ashwell 124 all out
O. Clarke 36, T. Moynihan 34,
R. Sykes 3-0-4-4, S. Hewer 7-2-2-15
Lt Shelford 125 -1
I. Smith 59, M. Harrod 46 not out
At last a return to winning ways in a very comfortable defeat of a what has to be said was a poor Ashwell side in comparison to previous games. On a very good looking batting pitch captain Tris Tegg won the toss and promptly put Ashwell in to the consternation of yours truly and most of Little Shelfords batters. As it turned out this was an excellent descision.
Nick Mansfield returned to the side and made an immediate impact by having Doughty caught behind with his second ball. Mark harrod at the other end was in on the act having Vinay caught off the leading edge at mid wicket leaving Ashwell 9 for 2 off 6 overs. Clarke and Vilas staged something of a recovery moving the score onto 61-2 by the 15th over but Steve hewer had Vilas plumb in front LBW in only his second over. Tim Moynihan struck some lusty blows for Ashwell but was bowled by Ricky Sykes for 34. Sykes then proceeded to rout the remainder of Ashwells batting lineup finishing with 4 wickets and conceeding only 4 runs, he also just missed out on his hat-trick when Chris Schofield dropped a chance at leg slip.
The pitch showed how good it was when Little Shelford replied losing just one wicket in the 16 overs needed to pass the Ashwell total. Ian Smith made his fifty comfortably before being adjudged LBW, this brought Naveed Butt to the crease with just 13 runs required for victory. He hit 2 fours from his first 2 balls and then on the last ball of the over played a forward defensive, remarkable for Naveed who is beleived never to have played this shot in his life before, to give Mark Harrod the strike in an attempt to get him his fifty. Butts selflessness was not repaid however as the Ashwell bowler promptly bowled a huge leg side wide which went to the boundary leaving Harrod stranded on 46.
Orpy's mom: A close call between Ian Smiths fifty and Ricky Sykes 4-4 but Smith gets the nod.

Lt Shelford 70 all out
N. Butt 21, P. Clarke 10-4-7-27

Four losses on the trot saw Little Shelford fall into the relegation zone as the awful batting displays continue. Confidence throughout the side is low and but for Naveed Butts contribution the score would have been even more embarrassing, only Tristan Tegg and Chris Schofield could join him on double figures.
Cockenach had no hesitation in asking Little Shelford to bat first on their newly laid wicket. Only two overs had been bowled when a sharp shower took the players off and off again with only another two bowled. Callum pringle was first to fall caught and bowled by Lambert, the ball appearing to stick in the pitch. Avi Das followed soon after mis-timing a drive to extra cover with the score on seven. This appeared to be the unlucky number as both Ian Smith and Neil Orpwood fell without advancing the score. Captain Tris Tegg in the company of Naveed Butt and then Chris Schofield did advance the score a little but the introduction of C. Chambers to the bowling attack accounted for the tail. Ian Smith reported that the wicket had changed dramatically after the showers early in the innings from playing straight and even to swinging and seaming conditions. Peter Clarke made the most of it taking 7 wickets for Cockenach in a very fine spell of bowling.
The Cockenach openers came out swinging with only a low score to get, Tegg looked particularly dangerous in the helpful conditions and had Ford bowled for a streaky 17. A. Eve followed in Teggs next over also bowled for nought. Little Shelford felt they were back in with a chance and when P. Seale fell for just seven runs also to Tegg the Cockenach score was just 25.
C. Chambers came to the crease and steadied the ship and with his contribution of 25 and Stevens with his solid 17 saw Cockenach home without further loss.

Sat 2nd July vs Whittlesford - Lost
Whittlesford 194 - 8
L. Clayton 69, M. Towers 33, T. Tegg 10-4-2-30
Lt Shelford 121 all out
I. Smith 48, T. Tegg 24, T. Burdett 10-1-3-35
The batting worries continued for Lt Shelford in another comprehensive defeat again with plenty of overs to spare. Another day and another vastly changed lineup due to injuries and work comittments saw the return of Mike Pringle after a gap of fourteen years, many thanks to him and his contribution was much appreciated.
Whittlesford won the toss and elected to bat first on a good looking but dry pitch. Mark Harrod opened the bowling for Lt Shelford despite his damaged finger and kept the Whittlesford openers in check. Captain Tristan Tegg bowled at the other end and had the ever dangerous David Baker caught and bowled in his second over, a wicket maiden. L. Cullen soon followed Baker back to the pavilion but this brought together Clayton and Towers who put on 71 before Towers was bowled by Ricky Sykes for 33. Clayton continued with a succession of partners before being run out for a well made 69. Worryingly there were 38 extras in the total.
Callum Pringle was promoted to open the innings with Ian smith and looked to be negotiating the early exchanges well untill he got a ball from Burdett which appeared to stop on him and he offered a simple chance to short extra cover. Burdett also accounted for Neil Orpwood also promoted in the order who was caught behind driving. Ian Smith was leading a charmed life at the other end offering several chances behind all off Burdett, indeed Whittlesfords opening bowling partnership of Burdett and Newnham was excellent. Burdett also accounted for Naveed Butt for a rapid 17 runs and Neil Taylor and Mike Pringle soon followed. Tristan Tegg raised some hope while in partnership with Smith but hopes were dashed when Smith was caught in the deep trying to raise the scoring rate, he finished on 48. Tegg Departed for 24 and the innings then subsided Mark harrod batting virtually one handed at the death.
Orpy's mom, Ian Smith top scoring with 48

Your correspondent was not at this match but it appears that but for Ricky Sykes and Will Sleighs eighth wicket effort this would have been a far worse defeat than it was
Orpys mom, hard to pick in a losing side but Ricky Sykes gets the nod.
Sat 18th June away vs Sawston II - Lost
Lt Shelford 91 all out
T. Tegg 34
Sawston II 93 for 3
M. Heginbotham 41
Lt Shelfords inconsistant selection really showed on a day where because of other committments there were 6 changes from the previous week but we thank in particular Lewis Campbell, Steve Hewer and Loudon St Hill for turning out in this rain affected match.
Lt Shelford were invited to bat first on what seemed a very good pitch but the batting lineup was soon in trouble. Late arrivals prompted a change in the line-up with Callum Pringle opening alongside Nigel Tegg with Ian Smith at three. The openers seemed to be negotiating the early exchanges well enough untill Pringle was bowled by an in-swinger between bat and pad. Ian Smith was looking very comfortable but was very well caught low to gulley for 10. In fact Sawstons II's fielding was excellent throughout and definitely the best we have seen so far. Rain interrupted proceedings twice after this but thanks to Sawstons covers the match continued but only with a succession of Lt Shelford wickets falling. Only captain Tristan Tegg offered any real resistance top scoring with 34 before being caught.
Sawstons reply started slowly as Nick Mansfield and Ricky Sykes kept it tight but as the rain started to fall the Sawston batters started to open up. The weather did not help the fielding side and despite vociferous protests to both captains and anybody else who would listen Neil Orpwoods pleas to go off were ignored despite the fact that Sawston spent most of the time in the nice warm dry changing rooms when it rained earlier in the match! A change of bowling saw three wickets fall, two to Tristan Tegg and one to Steve Hewer but it was too little too late and Sawston ran out comfortable winners.
Orpy's mom: T. Tegg, top scorer and wicket taker.
Sat 11th June Home vs Elmdon - Won
Lt Shelford 181 all out
T. Tegg 52 not out, N. Butt 32, I. Smith 30
A. Dixon 10-2-58-3
Elmdon 174 all out
D. Gaine 61
N. Tegg 10-2-42-5, N. Mansfield 9.4-1-42-4
The club would like to welcome back into the fold Nick Mansfield who made an immediate impact opening the bowling alongside our debutant Peter Flack. The club would like to wish both players every success in future matches.
Elmdon won the toss and somewhat surprisingly inserted Little Shelford who got off to a steady start with Ian Smith and Nigel Tegg going along at nearly 5 runs per over. Smith perished caught off D. Gaines bowling for a well made 30 which brought a promoted Callum Pringle to the crease but he very soon departed caught off A. Dixon, a wicket in his first over. Naveed Butt arrived at the crease and set about the Elmdon attack for a rapid 32 while N. Tegg fell at the other end for 22. This brought about a collapse as Lt Shelford went from 77-2 to 114-8 in only 8 overs. Captain Tris Tegg accompanied by some lusty blows from Will Sleigh steadied the ship until Sleigh was out caught off Pledger for 16. With the score on 141-9 and still 9 overs to be bowled Neil Orpwood marched out and nudged and blocked to Keep Tegg on strike ticking down the overs and pushing up the score to a creditable 181, T. Tegg 52 not out.
A. Mellick and D. Turner opened the reply for Elmdon but both perished to catches off the bowling of the returning Nick Mansfield while Pete Flack kept the batting in check at the other end. J. Reeves and D. Gaine kept the Elmdon score moving along untill Reeves got a ball from N. Tegg that bounced and he could only glove the ball to the keeper. This started a minor collapse in the Elmdon batting order losing two more wickets to N. Tegg leaving them on 89-5. D. Gaine kept the score moving untill Elmdon suffered another rush of wickets Tegg again removing Kimberly and Dixon. With the score on 138-8 it was up to Gaine and he set about his task in the company of Dixon the pair moved the Elmdon score onto 169 when Dixon fell bowled by the returning Flack. Gaine tried in vain to see his side home but was bowled by Mansfield attempting the pull shot leaving Elmdon 8 runs short with one over remaining. A very hard fought game with some tremendous performances from both sides.
Orpy,s mom: As last week very hard to decide, N. Teggs 5 for 42 vs his sons 52 not out. Tristan Tegg just gets the vote as he also bowled 10 very tight overs in the middle of the Elmdon innings in a very good all-round performance.
